An extinct language is a language that doesn't have any speakers. It is especially a extinct language when there are no descendants living. Also it is no longer used for written purposes. In contrast, a dead language is no longer the native language of any community, even if it is still in use.

According to wikipidea,
language death has typically resulted from the process of cultural assimilation leading to language shift. Also the gradual abandonment of a native language in favor of a foreign lingua franca. Institutions such as the education system, as well as forms of media such as the internet, television, and print media play a significant role in the process of language loss.=11.2px For example, when people migrate to a new country, their children attend school in the country, and the schools are likely to teach them in the majority language of the country rather than their parents' native language.

Examples of an extinct language is the language Coptic. It is from the family of Afroasiatic. An example of a dead language is old english and middle english. It is from England and southern and eastern Scotland.
